EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION

Equitable Distribution is the process whereby the Court attempts to split your assets fairly.  Equitable Distribution does not mean 50\50. It means a fair division. For example, in many cases, one spouse owns property before the marriage (separate property). Separate property will not be subject to division with your wife if you kept it separate. Also, with businesses, the Courts usually will not give your wife half its value if she made no contribution to the business. The scenarios of unequal distribution are infinite. The important thing to know is that your wife does not always have to get half your assets.
